SIL registration
SIL registration: what to do before 1 October 2026
Update, 1 October 2026: the application deadline has passed. The rule and its sources stay below as a record.
Short answer: Did you deliver SIL before 1 July 2026, and are you still unregistered? If you lodged a valid application by 30 September 2026, you can keep delivering while it is assessed. See the sources.
That is the same as before 1 October 2026. If the Commission refuses your application, the transition stops protecting that delivery. New SIL providers must register from 1 July 2026.
After 30 September
If you lodged in time, you can keep delivering while your application is assessed, and the audit is next. The free scorecard shows which of the six areas are ready for your auditor and what to fix first.
If you missed 30 September, the transition no longer protects your SIL delivery. Ask the Commission what that means for your participants before you plan any work.
How the transition works
The transition is tied to your status and the service you were delivering before 1 July 2026. It does not cover every organisation that uses the word SIL.
The current SIL pathway lists certification and registration group 0138. Confirm your entity, supports, sites and pathway before you prepare the application.
Who this applies to
Use this guide if you already deliver supported independent living, are unregistered, and were delivering that service before 1 July 2026.
Started later? A new entrant, or a different service? Use the current registration pathway for that scope instead.
Write down your entity, your SIL supports and sites, your registration status, your workers and the source for your date. Keep the application question separate from any audit decision.
What to prepare
- Confirm the facts. Your legal or trading entity, SIL supports, sites, workers, registration status and start date.
- Set the pathway. Note your registration group and certification pathway. Mark any scope question you cannot answer yet.
- Build the evidence list. Policy index, registers, worker screening, HR records, written procedures and a map of your evidence folder.
- Record the deadline. Keep the date, the source and the owner together. Treat 30 September 2026 as your last day.
- Ask about gaps. If your facts or your application validity are unclear, write to the Commission or a qualified adviser.
What to confirm separately
- Whether you were delivering SIL before 1 July 2026 and fit the transition.
- What makes an application valid for your chosen pathway.
- Which policies and records are ready now, and which still depend on real work.
- What happens to your delivery if the application is refused or your scope changes.
Common mistakes
- Calling 1 July a universal registration deadline for an unregistered SIL provider.
- Treating 1 October as an inclusive deadline instead of lodging by 30 September 2026.
- Choosing a pathway before you check the supports, sites, entity and evidence it will cover.
