Platform providers
Do platform providers have to register for the NDIS, and what counts as a platform?
Short answer: A new NDIS digital platform must register from 1 July 2026. Were you already operating before that date? If you lodged a valid application before 1 October 2026, you can keep running while it is assessed. If you did not, the transition no longer covers your platform. See the sources.
Before 1 October 2026 means lodged on or before 30 September 2026. If your application is refused, the transition stops protecting the service. The platform pathway lists registration group 0137.
Describe the platform role
The Commission's reform page describes an NDIS digital platform by its main purpose. It connects participants with support providers. It processes payments using NDIS plan funds.
Read that description next to the Rules definition. Then write down what your organisation actually does. Not every technology supplier is an NDIS digital platform provider.
Write down whether you do any of these things.
- Match participants with providers.
- Manage bookings.
- Coordinate workers.
- Hold participant information.
- Invoice, or deliver supports.
Then write down who contracts the worker and who holds the participant relationship. Name the entity that would apply if you need to register.
List your supports and sites. Say whether SIL is part of the service. Say what the platform itself controls.
Apply the transition to what you run
The digital pathway sets out the transition for an unregistered platform provider that was operating before 1 July 2026. Keep the date, the source and any Commission letters in one place.
This is an application deadline, not a general deadline for every digital service. The Commission decides what it accepts.
What to record this week
- Map the entity. Your legal or trading entity, platform functions, contracts and registration status.
- Split the roles. What you run, what an independent provider delivers, what someone else decides.
- Record your scope. Supports, sites, SIL, worker controls, incident and complaint paths.
- Keep the date proof. If you were operating before 1 July 2026, save the source and any letters that show it.
- Ask your next question. Where your service does not fit the published pathway, ask the Commission or a qualified adviser.
Common mistakes
- Calling every software or booking product an NDIS platform provider.
- Using the SIL transition for a platform without checking its own functions and start date.
- Saying you are "just technology" while you also coordinate workers or match supports.
